Russell Westbrook has found a new challenge away from the NBA court. The recently retired player has joined as co-founder and chief strategy officer of Project B, a new basketball league that aims to develop both women’s and men’s competitions.
Westbrook will also hold an ownership stake and serve on the organization’s board of directors. In his new role, he will help shape the strategy and vision of a competition scheduled to launch in January 2027.
Project B plans to begin with a five-on-five women’s league and host games in cities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Several prominent WNBA players have already confirmed their participation, including Nneka Ogwumike, Alyssa Thomas, and Jonquel Jones.
Will Westbrook return to professional basketball as a player in Project B?
There are no indications that he will compete as a player. His role will focus on strategic leadership and the growth of the new league.
The project gives Westbrook an opportunity to remain involved in basketball after completing an 18-season NBA career, highlighted by an MVP award, nine All-Star selections, and the all-time record of 209 triple-doubles.
