Currently, Novak Djokovic suffered one of the most unexpected defeats of his career after falling to Argentine Mariano Navone in the first round of the 2026 US Open. The Serbian lost 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, and 6-1 after more than four hours of intense competition.
The match was marked by Djokovic’s physical struggles. The Serbian vomited during the match and dealt with back and shoulder discomfort, as well as severe cramps. Despite winning the second and third sets to take the lead, the physical toll eventually had a major impact on his performance.
The defeat represents a major setback for the 24 time Grand Slam champion, who lost in the first round of the US Open for the first time and had not suffered an opening-round exit at a major tournament since the 2006 Australian Open.

The tennis star acknowledged that his physical problems were decisive and said he has been dealing with similar difficulties for much of the season.
