From yesterdey, Miami International Airport (MIA) temporarily halted flights to Caribbean destinations following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a United States-led military operation. The decision was made due to airspace restrictions near Venezuela and parts of the Caribbean, imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for security reasons amid increased military activity in the region.

The suspension led to cancellations and delays, affecting both domestic and international flights. Airlines such as Delta, JetBlue, and American Airlines confirmed disruptions to their schedules from and to Miami, advising passengers to check their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport.

Additionally, travelers faced long lines and last-minute rebookings, while concern grew among Latin American and Venezuelan communities in South Florida, one of the regions most impacted by the recent events.

Why were flights from Miami suspended?

Because authorities closed or restricted airspace near Venezuela and the Caribbean as a precautionary security measure following the military operation that resulted in Maduro’s capture.
