President Donald Trump announced the creation of the United States Space Academy, a new institution designed to prepare professionals for the growing U.S. space sector and strengthen the country’s leadership beyond Earth.
The initiative was announced Friday, August 28, during Trump’s visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where he signed an executive order launching the process to establish the academy.

The institution, which will be led by NASA, is expected to combine technical education with leadership, discipline, and public service. Its goal will be to train engineers, scientists, astronauts, operators, and other specialists who could work on projects involving NASA, the U.S. Space Force, and the private space industry.

A presidential commission will have 120 days to submit recommendations regarding its location, curriculum, admission requirements, and operations.
