Automaker Ford Motor Company announced a major recall of more than 270,000 electric and hybrid vehicles in the United States after identifying a problem with the parking function that could allow vehicles to move unexpectedly, even when placed in “park.”

The recall affects certain Ford F-150 Lightning BEV models from 2022 to 2026, the Ford Mustang Mach-E from 2024 to 2026, and the Ford Maverick pickup from 2025 to 2026.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue lies in the integrated parking module, which in some cases may not properly lock when the vehicle is shifted into park, increasing the risk of unintended movement.

The Company said the software update for the parking module will be provided free of charge, and affected owners will be notified so they can schedule the repair or receive a remote update.

What should affected owners do?

Owners of vehicles included in the recall should contact Ford customer service or wait for the official notification letter to ensure the parking system is updated and operating correctly.
