Kyiv suffered one of the largest Russian air attacks in recent weeks after dozens of missiles and 168 drones were launched against the Ukrainian capital and surrounding areas. Ukrainian authorities reported that at least 16 people were killed and more than 40 injured in the overnight assault.

The attack included cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, making it particularly difficult for Ukraine’s air-defense systems to intercept every incoming weapon. Ukraine’s Air Force said it managed to shoot down nearly 90% of the drones and most of the cruise missiles involved in the assault.

The damage across Kyiv was extensive. A nine-story residential building suffered severe destruction, while approximately 30 residential buildings, a school, a children’s hospital and a kindergarten were also damaged. Emergency crews worked through the aftermath searching damaged structures and assisting residents.
