Russia will celebrate its most symbolic date with a very different parade

Russia is preparing to commemorate Victory Day this May 9 with an event that breaks several traditions. The parade in Red Square, one of the most important ceremonies on the Russian calendar, will take place without the usual presence of tanks, missiles, and other heavy military vehicles.

The date marks the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in World War II and normally serves as a display of the country’s military power. However, this year the event will be scaled back, with troops marching on foot, special units, and limited air participation.

Analysts believe the changes are due to logistical and security reasons, in addition to the impact caused by the prolonged conflict in Ukraine. Even so, the Kremlin is keeping the event as a key part of its domestic political message.

Why will this parade be different?

Because Russia is trying to adapt to the current situation without canceling a date of enormous symbolic value.

Now the big question remains: is this only a temporary change, or a sign of new times for Moscow?
