Russia and North Korea have taken a major step toward strengthening their bilateral relationship by officially opening their first road bridge connecting the two countries.
The new structure crosses the Tumen River, along the border between Russia’s Primorsky Krai and North Korea. According to Express-News, the bridge is approximately one kilometer long, has two lanes and is expected to allow up to 300 vehicles per day to cross the newly established border checkpoint.

The project was agreed upon in 2024 and construction began in April 2025. Russian officials say the infrastructure could boost trade, transportation, tourism and cooperation in areas such as technology, science and culture. Passenger traffic is also expected to be added later.
The inauguration comes as relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have grown significantly in recent years, including military cooperation linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

It creates the first direct road connection between Russia and North Korea, expanding transportation options between the two nations beyond their existing rail and air links.
