The manufacturers of some of the most popular diabetes and weight-loss medications are facing lawsuits from patients who allege that the drugs were linked to a rare form of sudden vision loss.
According to Infobae, dozens of patients in the United States have taken legal action against Novo Nordisk, the company behind Ozempic and Wegovy, as well as Eli Lilly, which produces Zepbound. The lawsuits focus on a condition known as nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION, which can cause sudden and potentially permanent vision loss.
More than 90 lawsuits have reportedly been filed against Novo Nordisk in New Jersey since 2025, while federal cases involving both companies have been consolidated in Pennsylvania.
Could these medications be responsible for the vision problems?
Current research has identified a possible association, but it has not established that the drugs directly cause NAION. The companies dispute the allegations and maintain that their medications are safe when used as prescribed.
The litigation remains ongoing as researchers and regulators continue evaluating the potential risks.
