Ketel Marte returned to the Arizona Diamondbacks lineup after missing 13 games, an absence that raised numerous questions around the team. The Dominican infielder was included as the designated hitter and batted fourth against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The return comes after Marte failed to report for a game against the Boston Red Sox on August 17. Arizona subsequently placed him on the restricted list and later on the injured list because of inflammation in his left knee.

Before returning to the field, Marte publicly accepted responsibility and explained that he had been dealing with frustration and physical discomfort. He also said he planned to personally apologize to his teammates and manager Torey Lovullo.
