Google has issued a new warning about the growing risks associated with artificial intelligence, revealing that cybercriminals and espionage groups are increasingly using AI to make their attacks faster and more autonomous.
According to a new report from Google’s Threat Intelligence Group, attackers are using advanced AI systems to automate tasks such as stealing credentials, creating malicious code, conducting espionage and identifying targets. Some operations can now be carried out at a speed that makes traditional defenses more difficult.
The company also detected attempts to exploit AI software and programming tools, raising concerns about attacks against the software supply chain and the theft of valuable AI-related intellectual property.
Why is Google so concerned about these attacks?
Because artificial intelligence can act as a force multiplier, allowing criminals to coordinate complex operations in just a few hours and potentially overwhelm cybersecurity teams.
Google researchers say AI-powered attacks are no longer merely experimental. Groups linked to countries including Russia, China, Iran and North Korea have already been observed using AI to expand their capabilities.
