Times Square shooting: Attack leaves one woman dead and another person injured

Violent incident in Times Square, New York, left one woman dead and another person injured after an attacker assaulted two people with knives in one of the city’s busiest areas.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, August 31, near 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. According to authorities, a 49-year-old woman attacked a 68-year-old man and, seconds later, a 32-year-old woman. The latter later died at the hospital.

Police attempted to subdue the attacker with a stun gun, but the device failed to immobilize her. When the woman advanced toward officers with the knives, two officers opened fire, and the attacker later died.

Was the attack considered terrorism?

No. Authorities said that, so far, there is no indication that the incident was connected to terrorism and stated that it appeared to be a random attack.
