Living in the city of Miami is a dream many people share, whether they are from the United States or not. With its climate, beaches, and lifestyle, it remains a major attraction. But a recent study reveals that to live comfortably in this city, you need an income far above the local average.
For a single adult, the required income is estimated at around $118,000 per year. For two adults without children, the amount naturally increases; and for families with kids, the necessary income can exceed $194,000 per year. These figures reflect the real costs: expensive housing, food, utilities, transportation, and other basic expenses have risen sharply, placing Miami among the most expensive cities in the United States.

Studies indicate that to maintain a “comfortable” lifestyle, researchers applied the 50/30/20 budgeting rule: 50% for basic needs, 30% for discretionary spending, and 20% for savings or debt. This is why the salary threshold required greatly surpasses the city’s median income.
Is it worth moving to Miami if you don’t earn that income?
It depends on what you want for yourself. If you earn less, you will likely need to sacrifice certain comforts, such as living in more affordable neighborhoods, giving up luxuries, or sharing housing with others, factors that may alter the “ideal” Miami experience many people imagine.
