Yankees move Giancarlo Stanton to 60-day injured list after another setback

The New York Yankees have transferred Giancarlo Stanton to the 60-day injured list, another setback in a frustrating 2026 season for the veteran slugger. The move allows New York to activate reliever Justin Topa while Stanton remains sidelined.

Stanton suffered a moderate strain in his left calf while recovering from a previous injury to his right calf. The latest setback occurred during a rehabilitation session and has put his chances of returning this season in serious doubt.

The 36-year-old designated hitter had appeared in only 24 games this year, posting a .256 batting average with three home runs and 14 RBIs. His repeated physical problems have prevented him from establishing consistency and have created another challenge for a Yankees team fighting for a postseason position.

Does the move to the 60-day injured list mean Stanton is definitely done for the season?

Not officially. Although the calendar makes a return increasingly difficult, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has not completely ruled out the possibility of Stanton recovering in time to contribute.

For New York, the focus now shifts toward getting other injured stars back and maintaining enough offensive depth for the playoff race.
