The United States is considering imposing new tariffs on more than 60 trading partners following an investigation into products allegedly linked to forced labor. Among the countries identified are China, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Switzerland, and members of the European Union.
The proposal includes tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5%, depending on the country and the findings of the investigation conducted by the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Washington argues that these measures are intended to protect American workers and strengthen oversight of global supply chains.
For now, the new tariffs will not take effect immediately, as the proposal must undergo a period of public consultation and review before a final decision is made.
Which countries could be most affected?
China, Japan, India, South Korea, Brazil, and Switzerland could face tariffs of up to 12.5%, while countries such as Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan may be subject to tariffs of around 10%.
