A ferry traveling in the southern Philippines sank early Monday morning, triggering a major maritime tragedy that left at least 18 people dead, 24 missing, and more than 300 rescued, according to local authorities. The vessel, identified as the M/V Trisha Kerstin 3, was operating a regular inter-island route when it began to tilt and take on water shortly after departure.

Rescue teams from the Philippine Coast Guard, along with local fishermen, carried out a large-scale rescue operation, managing to save hundreds of passengers who were later taken to nearby hospitals for medical care. Sea conditions and possible overloading are among the causes being investigated.
