A powerful storm system is causing torrential rain and severe flash flooding across much of Southern California, including the Los Angeles area, prompting authorities to issue danger alerts, evacuation orders, and declare a state of emergency in several counties.
The phenomenon is being driven by an atmospheric river, commonly known as the “Pineapple Express”, which is transporting massive amounts of moisture from the Pacific Ocean. This system is producing rainfall totals equivalent to several months of rain in just a few days. Saturated soils have significantly increased the risk of landslides, debris flows, and flooded roadways.

In addition to flooding, authorities have reported power outages, fallen trees, and road closures, while emergency crews work to rescue stranded residents and assist isolated communities.
What is expected in the coming days?
Meteorologists warn that rainfall will continue and may intensify, keeping the risk of flooding and landslides high across affected areas for the remainder of the week.
