The Dallas Mavericks pulled off one of the most shocking moves of the 2026 NBA season by trading 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player deal just ahead of the trade deadline.

The agreement also sends Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum to Washington, while Dallas receives Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, and Marvin Bagley III, along with two first-round draft picks and three second-round picks.

Davis’ departure comes just one year after the Mavericks acquired him in a highly criticized trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, and follows a challenging season for Davis marked by injuries and extended absences.

For the Wizards, this trade represents an effort to accelerate the team’s rebuild alongside other young pieces, following the recent addition of Trae Young.

What will be the biggest impact of this trade?

It could reshape both franchises: Dallas gains flexibility and future assets, while Washington bets on competing in the Eastern Conference with renewed star power.
