Recently, thousands of people across all 50 United States states took to the streets in a day of protests and strikes against federal immigration policies under the slogan “ICE Out.” Student organizations, social movements, and labor unions organized simultaneous marches and a “national shutdown,” which included work stoppages and business closures, to demand the dismantling of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and an end to repression against migrant communities.

Organizers denounced arbitrary detentions, excessive use of force, and human rights violations, and announced plans for further actions, vigils, and demonstrations outside detention centers and federal offices, including in Washington, D.C.

A recent survey revealed that public opposition to ICE has grown significantly, with more Americans supporting its abolition than in previous weeks.
