After winning the World Cup with Argentina and completing his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi became the focus of intense speculation about his future. One of the most striking rumors involved a historic offer from Saudi club Al-Ittihad, reportedly worth €1.4 billion, around €400 million per season, to sign the Argentine superstar.

Anmar Al-Haili, president of Al-Ittihad, revealed that he personally tried to convince Messi after his PSG deal ended and was even willing to offer a fully customized contract, allowing the player to “earn whatever he wanted, for as long as he wanted, even for life.”

Despite the extraordinary financial proposal, Messi chose to reject the offer, prioritizing his family’s well-being and his sporting project. Instead, he opted to continue his career with Inter Miami, where he renewed his contract through the end of 2028.

The Saudi club president also stated that the door remains open should Messi ever reconsider a move to Saudi Arabia.

Why did Messi say no to such a massive offer?

Because he prioritized family stability and life in the United States over financial incentives.
