For the past few hours, the world of musical theater has been in mourning following the confirmation of the death of Imani Dia Smith, a young actress known for her role as Young Nala in the Broadway production of “The Lion King.” Imani, just 25 years old, was found dead on December 21 in her home in Edison, New Jersey, after suffering multiple stab wounds.

Authorities in Middlesex County arrested and charged Jordan D. Jackson-Small, identified as her current partner, with first-degree murder, along with additional charges including endangering the welfare of a minor and illegal possession of a weapon.

Smith, who performed in “The Lion King” between 2011 and 2012, leaves behind an artistic legacy that marked the beginning of her career on stage, as well as her 3-year-old son, whom she was raising with the support of her family. Following the tragedy, a fundraising campaign was launched to help cover funeral expenses and support the child’s well-being.
