A shocking incident struck the community of Grand Island, Nebraska, on December 24, when a 69-year-old man lost his life in what authorities described as a “highly unusual accident” at a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Local police confirmed that Michael “Mike” Dickinson became trapped between his vehicle and the payment window while attempting to pay from his car. He was rushed to a hospital, but later died from his injuries.

Police Chief Dean Elliott described the incident as a “100% freak accident,” explaining that Dickinson opened his car door to reach the window and, for reasons still under investigation, possibly an unintentional movement of the vehicle, became pinned between the door frame and the restaurant structure.

During the rescue attempt, a McDonald’s employee was also injured while trying to assist.

What makes this accident so unusual?

According to police, the exact sequence of events remains unclear, but the combination of an open car door, possible vehicle movement, and the proximity of the drive-thru window turned a routine action into an unexpected tragedy.
