On this day, two members of the West Virginia National Guard were seriously injured after a shooting occurred very close to the White House in Washington D.C. An unidentified individual opened fire directly at several uniformed guards in what authorities described as a targeted attack.

The incident took place in the afternoon, near the Farragut West Metro station, when the suspect, identified by police, approached the guards, raised his weapon, and fired without saying a word. Immediately afterward, other Guard members reacted, disarmed the attacker, and detained him. Both the victims and the detainee were transported to local hospitals.
