Recently, Japanese athlete Shohei Ohtani once again proved why he is an unstoppable offensive force at the plate, earning the 2025 Edgar Martínez Award for Best Designated Hitter for the fifth consecutive season.

With a batting line of .282/.392/.622, 55 home runs, his personal record, and a 1.014 OPS that led the National League, Ohtani once again established his supremacy at the plate.

Moreover, the award places him alongside legends like David Ortiz and Edgar Martínez, making him one of the few players to earn this recognition five or more times.

Although his main role was as a designated hitter, Ohtani also returned to the mound in 2025 after surgery, adding an extra layer of versatility to his already outstanding season.

Why does the Japanese hitter deserve this award for the fifth consecutive time?

Because throughout the entire season, he combined power, consistency, and the ability to deliver in key moments. He also led several offensive categories, broke personal records, and remained dominant even after returning as a pitcher.
