Noah Lyles once again crowned himself world champion in the 200 meters on September 19, 2025, in Tokyo, reclaiming the title he lost at the World Championships in Paris. With a time of 19.52 seconds, the American sprinter surged ahead in the final stretch, beating his compatriot Ken Bednarek (19.58).

Young Jamaican Bryan Levell took the bronze medal after an outstanding race, setting a personal best of 19.64 seconds, leaving Olympic star Letsile Tebogo off the podium. Tebogo, who shocked the world in Paris, could not repeat the feat this time.

Lyles, 28, had a difficult start to the season due to injuries, but his performance in the semifinals already showed signs of a return to form, clocking 19.51 seconds before the final. With this victory, he equals Usain Bolt’s record: both now have four consecutive world championships in the 200 meters.

How did Lyles manage to reclaim victory after his stumble in Paris?

His triumph came down to patience, strategy, and a powerful finish. Although he did not take the lead in the opening meters, he controlled his pace through the curve and unleashed a decisive burst in the last 50 meters. That combination allowed him to overtake Bednarek and reclaim the throne he had lost.
