Currently, tensions in the Middle East escalated to a new level after United Arab Emirates requested that the United Nations authorize the use of force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important shipping lanes on the planet.

The request was submitted to the Security Council with the goal of ensuring free navigation in this strategic area, through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes.

The blockage of the strait, attributed to Iran amid ongoing regional conflict, has driven oil prices higher and raised concerns about a potential global economic crisis.

Additionally, the UAE has not ruled out joining an international coalition to intervene militarily and secure the passage of commercial vessels, a move that could further escalate tensions.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important?

Because it is a critical route for transporting oil and gas, and any disruption directly impacts global energy prices.

The situation has put governments and markets on high alert, as fears grow that a regional conflict could expand into a broader global crisis.
