Trump promises financial relief: proposes checks as “tariff rebates”

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again brought back an idea reminiscent of the pandemic years, sending economic stimulus checks to American citizens. However, this time the plan falls under what he calls a “tariff rebate”, a proposal that aims to use revenue generated from new import taxes to fund direct payments to Americans.

Trump promises financial relief: proposes checks as “tariff rebates”

Although the exact amount has not been confirmed, estimates suggest the checks could range between $1,000 and $2,000 per person. Trump claims that this measure would help offset the impact of inflation on certain goods while boosting domestic consumption. However, Congress has not yet shown signs of support, and several lawmakers warn that the plan could further increase the fiscal deficit.

Could Americans receive this money soon?

Most likely not. The proposal remains a political idea without any current approval, and its implementation will depend on the level of support it gains in Congress. Still, the promise of financial relief has already reignited debate over the economy and purchasing power in the United States.
