President Donald Trump’s administration continues to tighten its immigration stance with aggressive raids and new control measures. On Monday, August 11, Trump considered deploying the National Guard in Washington D.C. while placing the local police under federal oversight.

The climate of fear extends beyond the capital

Schools, hospitals, and religious institutions no longer enjoy the status of “sensitive locations.” Although ICE insists it “does not conduct operations inside schools, churches, or hospitals,” panic among migrant families has grown, prompting school absenteeism, informational workshops, and the formation of community support networks.

Immigration policy is moving in lockstep with operations like “Safeguard,” aimed at quickly arresting and deporting undocumented individuals in urban areas, especially in self-declared sanctuary cities such as Chicago and Los Angeles.

Why is Trump seeking to control the local security system?

Because he is narrowing the gap between federal and local authorities to apply his immigration policies more directly and forcefully, removing barriers and potential safe spaces for vulnerable communities.
