A dramatic shooting shook Midtown Manhattan on Monday night, leaving a NYPD officer and a civilian injured after a suspect opened fire, according to city officials. The incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a building that houses major offices including Blackstone, the NFL, KPMG, and Bank of America.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, the situation is now under control. The shooter, identified as acting alone, was neutralized after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound that resulted in his death. Officials confirmed there was no second attacker involved.

Mayor Eric Adams and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul posted on social media that they were closely monitoring the situation and urged the public to avoid the area as law enforcement conducted their operations. Authorities also advised avoiding East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue due to street closures and possible public transportation delays.

What measures have been taken following the shooting?

The FBI and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York are leading the investigation and have set up a command post to coordinate response efforts.

The area around the building remains cordoned off, and significant traffic disruptions are expected. Law enforcement urges the public to stay clear of the zone until further notice as evidence and witness statements are gathered.

The incident reignites concerns over urban violence in high-profile locations and the need to reinforce security in key corporate and government buildings across Manhattan.
