A JetBlue flight traveling from Cancún to New York City experienced moments of terror when, midway through the trip, the aircraft suddenly lost more than 25,000 feet of altitude, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the abrupt drop in altitude was caused by a sudden cabin depressurization. The pilots reacted quickly, descending immediately and requesting priority clearance to land safely. Onboard, several passengers described the situation as “pure terror,” though fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident, while the airline has issued apologies and provided assistance to all affected passengers.

Was it a technical failure or human error during the flight?

Based on the information so far, everything points to a mechanical issue in the pressurization system. However, experts have not ruled out examining the sensors’ response and emergency protocols before releasing a final report.
