Colombia national team captain James Rodríguez has signed with Minnesota United of Major League Soccer (MLS) just four months before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The 34-year-old midfielder, whose career includes stints at clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and León, arrives in the MLS on a contract guaranteed until June 2026, with a club option to extend it through December. Rodríguez’s main objective is to stay fit and maintain competitive rhythm ahead of the World Cup, after being without a team since the end of his spell in Mexican football.

Minnesota United officially announced the signing, highlighting James’ experience, vision, and creativity as key assets for the squad this season.

The MLS season kicks off on February 21, when Rodríguez could make his debut for the club against Austin FC, aiming to help Minnesota return to the playoffs.
