The European team controlled most of the matchup thanks to a powerful offensive performance that allowed them to build an 8–0 lead in the early innings.
Home runs from Kyle Teel, Sam Antonacci, and Jac Caglianone made the difference for Italy, while pitcher Michael Lorenzen delivered a solid performance on the mound. Despite Italy’s big lead, Team USA attempted a late comeback with home runs from Gunnar Henderson and Pete Crow-Armstrong, who hit two homers to bring his team closer on the scoreboard.
