Wholesale retailer Costco has announced the recall of one of its popular prepared meals due to a potential health risk. The affected product is the meatloaf with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and glaze meal kit, a ready to cook dish that was sold in several Costco stores across the United States.
According to the company, the product may be contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
The recall was issued after Griffith Foods, a supplier of one of the ingredients used in the meal kit, warned that a product it distributed could potentially contain the bacteria.
The meal kits were reportedly sold between March 2 and March 13, 2026, in more than two dozen U.S. states, as well as in Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
So far, no illnesses have been reported, but customers are being urged not to consume the product and to return it to any Costco store for a full refund.
What symptoms can salmonella cause?
Salmonella infections typically cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and vomiting, with symptoms appearing anywhere from 6 hours to several days after consuming contaminated food.
