Just moments ago, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert and ordered the recall of a well-known soup in 14 states after detecting the presence of an undeclared allergen on its label, putting the health of people with food allergies at risk.
The recalled product is Grandma Belle’s Tomato Basil Soup, manufactured by Lil’ Turtles, which was distributed in stores across Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Kentucky, Minnesota, Utah, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin and Iowa. It was determined that the soup contains milk, an allergen that was not listed on the label, which could trigger severe or potentially life-threatening allergic reactions in people sensitive to this ingredient.
Although no illnesses have been reported so far, United States authorities warn that consuming the soup poses a significant risk for individuals with milk allergies or severe intolerances. The FDA recommends immediately discarding any container of the affected product or returning it to the place of purchase for a refund.
What should people with food allergies do if they have this soup at home?
If you have a milk allergy or related sensitivity, the safest option is not to consume the product and either discard it or return it to avoid any risk of a severe reaction, including anaphylaxis.
