A few hours ago, Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health reported that 1,023 new cases of dengue and chikungunya were registered on the island in the last 24 hours, amid an epidemic currently shaking the country.
Of that total, 627 correspond to chikungunya, bringing the number of infections to 40,801 since the beginning of the outbreak, and 396 are dengue cases. In addition, authorities report that 64 patients are in serious condition and 12 are in critical condition, including 11 babies under one year old.

The health crisis is worsening due to a shortage of medicines, limitations in fumigation efforts, and weaknesses within the healthcare system, making it increasingly difficult to contain the outbreak currently affecting Cuba.
Why is the situation in Cuba so critical regarding dengue?
The combination of a simultaneous arbovirus outbreak, the lack of medical resources, and an already weakened healthcare system turns the country into an area of extreme risk. Many infections may go undiagnosed, and complications, especially among children and the elderly, could increase if the appropriate measures are not taken.
