Casio has unveiled a truly special timepiece that honors Japan’s rich cultural heritage and traditional design. The new Casio G-SHOCK MRG-B2100D-2A is inspired by the five-story pagoda of Mount Haguro in Yamagata Prefecture, a site filled with symbolism and located near the factory where many of the high-end MR-G watches are crafted.
This premium model combines the classic octagonal case beloved by G-SHOCK fans, popularly known as the “CasiOak” due to its resemblance to iconic luxury watches, with elements of Japanese design that evoke calm and solemnity. Its striking hanada-iro blue dial, inspired by traditional indigo dyeing techniques, shifts in tone depending on the light, creating a unique aesthetic.
Casio also incorporates details based on the kigumi technique, a traditional Japanese woodworking method, visible in the three-dimensional lattice patterns on the dial. Crafted from premium materials such as Ti64 titanium and cobarion metal, the watch blends high-level craftsmanship with advanced features like Tough Solar charging and Bluetooth connectivity for absolute precision.
Is this model intended only for collectors?
Largely, yes. With its strong cultural significance, superior materials, and limited availability, the MRG-B2100D-2A is designed for enthusiasts who appreciate both luxury watchmaking and Japanese tradition.
