Recently, Apple fans learned that the tech giant is preparing a major shift in strategy by developing a low-cost laptop expected to hit the market in the first half of 2026, according to Bloomberg reports. This new computer, codenamed “J700,” is aimed at attracting students, casual users, and businesses that currently prefer Chromebooks or Windows devices.

To achieve a price well below $1,000, Apple plans to use simpler components, a smaller LCD screen, an iPhone chip instead of the costly M-series processors, and a more affordable design. This marks a significant move for Apple, a company traditionally focused on the premium segment.

What impact could this launch have on the market?

It could be a major one. By offering a lower-priced Mac, Apple might capture users who previously leaned toward cheaper alternatives, while strengthening its ecosystem against competitors. However, the move also carries risks for the brand, which must strike a balance between affordability and the high-quality experience that defines its products.
