NBA legend Gregg Popovich has entered a new chapter in his personal life after marrying Mary Barth Budenholzer, the former wife of longtime Spurs assistant coach Mike Budenholzer.
According to a marriage license filed in Bexar County, Texas, Popovich and Mary were married on September 16. The news has attracted attention because of Popovich’s long professional relationship with Mike, who worked as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs from 1996 to 2013.
During those years, the Spurs won five NBA championships, making Budenholzer an important part of Popovich’s coaching staff. Mike and Mary divorced in 2016, while Popovich’s first wife, Erin, died in 2018.

That remains unclear. However, the couple had been seen together at Spurs games during the previous NBA season.
Popovich, 77, stepped away from coaching in 2025 after 29 seasons with San Antonio and now serves as the franchise’s president of basketball operations.
